InstaLay’s enhanced floating floor reduces reflected walking sound

InstaLay 25hg has been used to install 1,300m2 (13,993 sq.ft.) of new engineered oak flooring at a converted Victorian warehouse in Spitalfields, east London. This is the most recently opened facility of Wallacespace, who provide serviced offsite meeting spaces for training, events, seminars, conferences and meetings.

Once the InstaLay had been loose laid over the raised access sub-floor, the tongue and groove wood flooring was installed without using glue between the joints. As the Weitzer Parkett WIP 450 engineered oak boards (11 x 65 x 500mm) were positioned in place, the release film was removed, exposing InstaLay’s adhesive membrane. The planks were then secured by applying pressure to fully activate the adhesive.

As InstaLay needs no messy wet adhesives or open times the installation was very quick and clean and the new floor could be walked on and used immediately.

Manufactured from recycled rubber crumb granules, InstaLay is environmentally friendly and provides outstanding acoustic performance, which was important in this commercial setting. This project recycled 196 car tyres or 29 truck tyres.

InstaLay also provided various additional benefits:-

  • It was rapidly installed following minimal sub-floor preparation.
  • It created an enhanced floating floor by fully bonding the entire underside of the flooring together, reducing reflected walking sound.
  • It is hygienic, non-absorbent, resistant to decay and has low VOC’s for a healthier environment.
  • It provides long-term stability, performance and durability and will not collapse over time.

The Weitzer Parkett Oak flooring combined with InstaLay provided a high quality look and feel to the new flooring and its speed and ease of installation meant the office spaces were quickly in full use.
