InstaTile high performance rubber tiles for gym floors used at new tri-services facility for the M.O.D

As part of a major redevelopment of the tri-services facilities at Worthy Down near Winchester, by main contractor, Skanska, an impressive college, accommodation blocks and recreational amenities have all been completed, providing new surroundings in which army, royal navy and royal air force personnel can live, work and train.

Included in the camp’s regeneration is a new 215m² gym where InstaTile rubber flooring tiles were used to provide a high performance impact protection and shock absorption system required for free weights and other gym equipment. Each measuring 20mm x 500mm x 1000mm, the rubber gym tiles were specified and installed by specialist sports floor contractor, Courtcraft, by simply bonding them to the sub-floor.

The environmentally friendly gym tiles are made from recycled rubber crumb recovered from worn vehicle tyres, preventing them from going into landfill and creating a fully recyclable product. The tiles are extremely durable and give excellent acoustic performance, reducing impact sound entering the structure, as well as preventing damage to the sub-floor from free weights.

Worthy Down personnel now have a high quality facility with safe shock absorption flooring for cross training, weight lifting and exercise that isolates vibration from gym equipment while protecting the sub-floor from damage.
