This installation at Marshall Field Garden Apartments in Chicago is, to date, the largest ever project to use InstaLay, the self-adhesive acoustic flooring installation system.
Built in 1929, this subsidized housing development occupies two square city blocks in the Old Town district. Tenants were temporarily rehoused while all of the 600 apartments had new LVT flooring installed.
The lightweight InstaLay rolls are just 39” wide (1m), which made them easy to distribute around the buildings, where there were no elevators or hoists available to the flooring contractors.
The InstaLay was loose laid over the existing VATs (Vinyl Asbestos Tiles), which minimised the need for any sub-floor preparation and speeded up the installation, saving significant time and money. It also eliminated the need for any additional adhesives which, with the rooms being small, was particularly helpful.
As the InstaLay release film was peeled back the LVTs were positioned and pressed into place on the high grab adhesive, making installation quick, clean and easy. Once completed, the new floors, with their rubber crumb InstaLay, provided additional underfoot comfort as well as delivering high acoustic performance and reducing sound levels, which is so important in apartment living.
InstaLay acoustic underlayment provides various important benefits:
